Music At Riverdale “Christmas for Kids (of all ages)”

Riverdale Presbyterian will be hosting several wonderful groups of young musicians, including the College Park Youth Choir, Eleanor Roosevelt High School Clarinet Choir, Concordia Middle School, and Jazz Trio. As groups move on and off the staging area, the audience will be led in singing Christmas Carols. Following the concert, there will be a reception with soup and bread , cookies and drinks in Custis Hall, the downstairs fellowship hall. Performers and their families are encouraged to come and share some soup and mingle with other performers and audience members. The University Park town tree lighting will follow at 6:00 pm, a couple of blocks walk up Queens Chapel Rd. from the church.
Former Waldorf kindergarten teacher and Director of the Alliance for Childhood, Joan Almon will lead this calm and joyful afternoon featuring greenery, a puppet show, and the star in the apple.

Talismans for the New Year
Sunday, December 30, 2 - 4 pm at Old Parish House.
The Hopi Indians greet the New Year by creating tiny talismans (paahos) out of sticks, twine and natural items, representing things they would like to see return in the New Year. Try making this fun workshop a part of your annual family New Year's traditions!
Arts drop-in instructor Aaron Springer leads an imaginative and creative free-form arts afternoon that children and parents will enjoy together. College Park Arts Exchange invites you to explore our free monthly arts drop-in program, ideal for children ages 3-8. All children must be accompanied by an adult. CPAE children's programs are funded in part by Target and the City of College Park.
Family and friends will have a great time at this fun concert with Greenbelt’s own a capella group. The Chromatics’ original songs offer “melodic insights into modern life” with “a smattering of science” -- and they’ll also jazz up covers in their own unique way. This free concert is sure to be a hit! Come with a plan to buy some of their cds as well.

Julie Powell describes her adventures and misadventures as she strives to give order to her life in New York after 9/11 through an ambitious cooking project -- she sets out to improve her cooking by making every recipe in volume one of Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
The College Park Youth Choir will present their Winter Community Concert at Berwyn Presbyterian Church, 6301 Greenbelt Road, Berwyn Heights, MD, on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:30 pm. Christopher Fominaya, music teacher at University Park Elementary, leads the Youth Choir with enthusiasm and skill. Your hearts will soar with the music of this choir of 40+ voices, age 6 and up. This free concert is open to the public, and a reception will follow.
Save and bring your holiday wrappings to help make a full-size Asian Dragon to carry in local parades! Ribbons and shiny paper of all colors, especially metallic, will make our dragon shine. Be a part of this exciting group project at Arts Drop-in. Back by Popular Demand, dancers from Ballroom at Maryland will teach three fun afternoons introducing you to the basics of Latin Dance – Bring a friend for lots of fun, and learn to move by Valentine's Day! Make new friends and learn a new art skill as you participate in our hands-on arts workshops at the Old Parish House. The Youth Choir begins its spring semester on Tuesday, February 5. Under the high-energy direction of Chris Fominaya, the choir has grown to over 40 students ages 6-12. If your young singer is interested in joining us for this fun and educational experience, please drop in on Feb. 5. Students rehearse Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Old Parish House and perform several times each year at venues throughout College Park. Fee for the semester is $75 per child.
