Talismans for the New Year
Sunday, December 30, 2 - 4 pm at Old Parish House.
The Hopi Indians greet the New Year by creating tiny talismans (paahos) out of sticks, twine and natural items, representing things they would like to see return in the New Year. Try making this fun workshop a part of your annual family New Year's traditions!
Arts drop-in instructor Aaron Springer leads an imaginative and creative free-form arts afternoon that children and parents will enjoy together. College Park Arts Exchange invites you to explore our free monthly arts drop-in program, ideal for children ages 3-8. All children must be accompanied by an adult. CPAE children's programs are funded in part by Target and the City of College Park.

The College Park Youth Choir will present their Winter Community Concert at Berwyn Presbyterian Church, 6301 Greenbelt Road, Berwyn Heights, MD, on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:30 pm. Christopher Fominaya, music teacher at University Park Elementary, leads the Youth Choir with enthusiasm and skill. Your hearts will soar with the music of this choir of 40+ voices, age 6 and up. This free concert is open to the public, and a reception will follow.

Back by Popular Demand, dancers from Ballroom at Maryland will teach three fun afternoons introducing you to the basics of Latin Dance – Bring a friend for lots of fun, and learn to move by Valentine's Day! Make new friends and learn a new art skill as you participate in our hands-on arts workshops at the Old Parish House. The Youth Choir begins its spring semester on Tuesday, February 5. Under the high-energy direction of Chris Fominaya, the choir has grown to over 40 students ages 6-12. If your young singer is interested in joining us for this fun and educational experience, please drop in on Feb. 5. Students rehearse Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Old Parish House and perform several times each year at venues throughout College Park. Fee for the semester is $75 per child. "Cowrie Shells West African Dance and Drum Ensemble” will lead this participatory drum circle involving West African rhythms and basic dance steps traditionally performed at West African community events such as parties, festivals and other celebrations. No complicated rhythms! Attendees may choose either drumming or dancing.
