WEST AFRICAN DANCE AND DRUMMING With Arthur Coe and Lakita Stukes

"Cowrie Shells West African Dance and Drum Ensemble” will lead this participatory drum circle involving West African rhythms and basic dance steps traditionally performed at West African community events such as parties, festivals and other celebrations. No complicated rhythms! Attendees may choose either drumming or dancing.

Back by Popular Demand, dancers from Ballroom at Maryland will teach three fun afternoons introducing you to the basics of Latin Dance – Bring a friend for lots of fun, and learn to move by Valentine's Day! Make new friends and learn a new art skill as you participate in our hands-on arts workshops at the Old Parish House. Marjane Satrapi tells of growing up in Iran, from the ages of 6-14, during the Islamic Revolution.
She writes in the "graphic novel" format, illustrating her memoir as though it were a comic book.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO

Open up the world of musical instruments for your child with this hands-on experience! University of Maryland music education students will introduce different musical instruments and give each child a chance to make a sound on every instrument. Plus, work with Melissa Sites to build your own wind instrument.

“MISTRESS OF RIVERSDALE”
Start: 7:30 pm

Cherie Weinert performs in this one-woman historical drama about Rosalie Calvert, who married into the Calvert family and became mistress of the Riversdale estate in the early nineteenth century.

It is particularly appropriate that the show will be performed in the Old Parish House, which was built as part of the Calvert estate in 1817 -- originally as a dairy barn.

This show was sold out at the Clarice Smith Center in 2006.
