Discuss Literary Non-fiction by Women at the CPAE Book Club.
Dates and Titles for fall include:
Sept 24 (resched.)-- Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth, by Margaret Atwood. The noted fiction writer delves into a cultural analysis of the idea and reality of debt.
Oct 16-- The House at Sugar Beach: In Search of a Lost African Childhood, by Helene Cooper. A journalist writes of how she fled her home country of Liberia when civil war erupted in 1980 and returned after 23 years.
Nov 20-- Ida: A Sword Among Lions: Ida B. Wells and the Campaign Against Lynching, by Paula J. Giddings. This historian of American black women activists discusses great twentieth-century progressives, black and white, who worked alongside Wells and her anti-lynching campaign.
Dec. 18 -- Checkout: a Life on the Tills, by Anna Sam. A French cashiere writes an entertaining social commentary from her unseen position.
